A quiet first half greeted the week 32 Ghana Premier League encounter between visiting Asante Kotoko and Gold Stars on Sunday May 25 at the Duns Park.
Kotoko, who lost top striker, Kwame Opoku to the senior national team for the 2025 Unity Cup, failed to bury the scanty chances they created in the first half.
The record Ghana Premier League holders however became ruthless in the second half, piling incessant pressure on Gold Stars defence but were kept at bay by Gold Stars keeper Emmanuel Kobbi.
With 80 minutes played, Gold Stars looked to have come out of their shells with a few chances but some rusty touches saw them waste the scanty opportunities.
Asante Kotoko could have chalked a win in added time but Sampson Eduku’s curler rattled the crossbar, much to the shock of the club’s traveling fans and the technical team. The score line remained barren after full time, leaving Kotoko on 55 points in third and Gold Stars on 57 points on the second spot after 32 matches.
In another title contending fixture, Nations FC made light work of Samartex with a 3-0 victory at the Dr. Kyei Stadium on Sunday to stretch their lead to three over Gold Stars.
Elsewhere in Techiman, Young Apostles dented Heart of Lions’ title chances after recording a 3-1 over the Kpando based club.
