Ghana’s Thelma Baffour basks in Women’s CAF Champions League glory

Ghana under-20 women's national team attacker Thelma Baffour Atuah is still basking in the Women’s CAF Champions League trophy she won with TP Mazembe.

The 20-year-old was a key member of the DR Congo outfit which defeated Morocco giants, AS FAR 1-0 in the finals in El Jajida, Morocco.

Thelma expressed her joy at the glory achieved after Marlene Kasaj’s spot kick silenced the home favorites.

“It is a dream come true for me. I have harbored the dream of playing at the highest level and winning titles. I believe this is the first of many to come,” Thelma Baffour told the Ghanaian Times.

Thelma is in her second season at TP Mazembe after stints with Ghana side, Jonina and Berry Ladies.

She has already played for Ghana’s U-17 and the U-20 sides and her dream is to earn a call up into the senior national team, the Black Queens ahead of the 2025 women Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

“Ghana has what it takes to do well at next year’s tournament. We have some great players to count on and with dedication and hardwork, Ghana can leave a mark at the tournament.” Thelma Baffour added.

Thelma helped Jonina Ladies qualify for the Ghana Women’s Premier League for the 2022/23 league season.

She becomes the second Ghanaian to win the CAF Women’s Champions League after Blessing Shine Agbomadzi chalked the feat with Morocco’s AS FAR in 2022.
