Ghana Premier League: Samba O’neil fires Hearts of Oak warning ahead of derby

Asante Kotoko defender Samba O’neil has indicated that the playing body is bent on claiming all three points in their week nine fixture against rivals, Hearts of Oak in Accra on Sunday.

Both clubs are yet to taste defeat in the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League campaign despite Hearts of Oak playing eight matches, three better than Asante Kotoko.

Asante Kotoko have collected five wins, recorded three losses and four draws in their last 12 away games against Hearts of Oak in the Ghana Premier League and they will look to add another win to their points haul.

Samba O’neil first touched on the need to keep a clean sheet before stressing the importance of collecting all three points at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Asante Kotoko is bent on keeping a clean sheet

“A lot of games we play, whether we play good or not the first thing is that we don’t want to concede and we have spoken a lot and determined to keep our clean sheet [and] even when we conceded twice against Karela United [in week 8] we played very well but we did not do our job to keep the post so next time we will do it very well,” Samba O’neil told Kotoko media.

“In our mind, we are going to start the same way we started the league, we just put in our mind [that we need] the three points and so we are going to Accra for a win, you know Hearts of Oak is a tough side [and] we know that it’s going to be a tough game but in our mind it is three points.”

Kotoko currently sit 9th on the league log with 11 points from five matches with three outstanding games to play.
