Former Ghana winger, Solomon Asante has expressed his eagerness to “channel his playing experience into a coaching role, contributing as a dedicated mentor for Texoma FC” following his inclusion into the technical team as an assistant coach.
Texoma FC announced the addition of the former USL Championship MVP to the Texoma FC technical staff as an assistant coach. The diminutive Asante played for Texoma FC in USL League One in the past season where he scored four goals and one assist.
Asante who played in Ghana for Berekum Chelsea expressed his excitement for the role: “My life in soccer has taken me from Ghana, Congo, Arizona, Indiana, Nevada, and Texas. My career has taught me the technical nuances of the game and its power to unite. I am now eager to channel my experience into a coaching role, contributing as a dedicated mentor for this club.”
Prior to joining Texoma FC in February this year Asante enjoyed a glowing career in the USL Championship, playing for Las Vegas Lights, Indy Eleven and Phoenix Rising FC after leaving Congolese powerhouse TP Mazembe where he spent four seasons.
Head Coach of Texoma FC Ben Clarvis shared his thoughts on Solomon Asante’s inclusion into the technical squad.
“We’re incredibly excited to welcome Solomon Asante back to Texoma FC in this new role. He’s a USL legend who brought professionalism, leadership, and a winning mentality every day as a player. His experience at the highest levels of the league and his understanding of what it takes to succeed will be invaluable to our locker room and staff. Having someone who knows the club and commands respect step into an assistant coaching role strengthens everything we’re building here.”
Asante’s rich experience includes the Western Conference and regular-season titles with Phoenix Rising and a 2012 Burkinabé Premier League championship with ASFA Yennenga.
He is a two-time back-to-back USL Championship MVP (2019–20) and was named Ghanaian Player of the Year in 2017 while playing for Berekum Chelsea in the Ghana Premier League.
Solomon Asante added:“I believe soccer is a vehicle for teaching essential skills — teamwork, discipline, and resilience. My goal is to foster an inclusive environment where everyone thrives. I’m confident that my background, in partnership with the other coaching staff, will allow us to achieve success and build a strong team.
“The owners, staff, and fans have been incredible, and I am looking forward to getting started.”
The 35-year-old previously played for Ghanaian clubs Feyenoord now West Africa Football Academy, Berekum Chelsea, ASFA Yennega of Burkina Faso and TP Mazembe of DR Congo before his USL journey.
Solomon Asante was capped 21 times for Ghana’s senior men’s team, earning an invite for their 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers but was later dropped due to concerns over his eligibility after initially featuring for Burkina Faso.
Texoma FC will kick off in USL League Two in May 2026 at Munson Stadium in Denison, TX.
