Former Ghana national team winger Kwame Poku speaks on early days at QPR

One-time Ghana international Kwame Poku has discussed his first days since signing for EFL Championship side Queens Park Rangers F.C.

The 23-year-old arrived late last month and was thrusted straight into pre-season training before heading abroad for 10 days with the squad.

Reflecting on things so far, Poku said as quoted by QPR website: “I’m enjoying it. The facilities, the players, the staff; I’m just grateful to be here.”

Poku was part of the 29-man party which travelled to Girona, spending invaluable time with his new team-mates and new head coach Julien Stéphan. “It was a good experience,” he said while reflecting on the experience during the tour. “You’re with everyone, building bonds, playing in the heat and staying in nice facilities.”

He added: “The fans were great,” he said. “Especially to come all that way for a pre-season game. It shows their commitment and their love for the club. It was really good to see.”

And with the Championship campaign kicking-off in just over a fortnight, Poku can’t wait for the curtain-raiser in W12 against Preston North End.

“Playing the first game at home is always a dream,” he said. “You don’t want to be trekking far away for the first game of the season. It’ll be great to build relationships with the fans so I’m really looking forward to it.”
