Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey was on target as Arsenal blew away reigning champions with a stunning performance at Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

In a thrilling 5-1 win, captain Martin Odegaard got the Gunners off to a fast start, scoring 103 seconds into the game from Kai Havertz’s pass. But the real drama came in the second half. Erling Haaland equalised for Man City with a powerful header.

The Black Stars midfielder scored from outside the area almost instantly, before Myles Lewis-Skelly blasted home his first senior goal. Havertz then rounded off a fantastic counter-attack to make it 4-1, but Arsenal weren’t done yet as Ethan Nwaneri powered home a wonderful left-footed strike, just inside the post to make it 5-1.

Partey’s goal was a joy to watch, as the Black Star intercepted a ball in the middle of play before unleashing a right-footed effort which was goalbound. The ball took a deflection off the back of Man City's John Stones before hitting the back of the net.

The 31-year-old as so far scored three Premier League goals from 23 appearances for the Gunners. His first of the season came in the 2-0 away win against Aston Villa before he scored in the 3-0 win against Nottingham Forest.

Last season, Partey featured in 14 games for Arsenal but did not score a goal. Prior to joining Arsenal in October 2020, Partey made 264 league appearances in total at Atletico Madrid, scoring 24 goals and providing 14 assists.
