Ghanaian defender Tariq Lamptey extends Brighton & Hove Albion stay

Lamptey: Brighton & Hove Albion.

Ghanaian defender Tariq Lamptey has extended his contract with Brighton & Hove Albion by a year, with the Premier League side hailing his versatility in wide areas.

A statement from the Sea Gulls confirms the extension of the deal for the 24-year-old Black Stars’ wingback, who is well known for his pace and attacking abilities.

The Ghana international made his Albion debut in 2020 and has made 122 appearances for the club, scoring five goals and providing 12 assists. Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler has since expressed his happiness to keep the hardworking player.

“We’re delighted Tariq is staying with us. He wants to help the team achieve our targets and gives us great options in wide areas. We are looking forward to Tariq being part of our journey next season,” Hurzeler told the club’s media.

Lamptey was born in London; hence was able to represent England junior national teams, including the under-18 and 21, before he switched to Ghana.

The Premier League club also confirmed the extension of a contract for Senegalese striker Abdallah Sima, who spent last season on loan at French Ligue 1 side Brest.

Sima has had his contract extended alongside those of Seb Jensen, Harry Mills, Odel Offiah, and Jamie Mullins.
