Ghana defender Gideon Mensah has reacted to AJ Auxerre’s fine run to their relegation escape in the French Ligue 1.

Auxerre stared relegation in the face during the just ended season but managed to fight back to stay afloat, finishing in 11th at the end of the term with 42 points from 34 league matches.

Mensah played a pivotal role during the campaign, featuring in 29 matches and providing an assist in the process.

The 26-year-old left-back said: "What A Season... Proud to wear these colors, proud to be part of this group, proud to be at AJ Auxerre. A year full of hard work, passion, sweat, and most of all, love for this club," he posted on social media following the completion of the season.

The former Red Bull Salzburg defender played full throttle in the final game of the season as Auxerre lost to French champions and UEFA Champions League finalist Paris Saint Germain.

The West Africa Football Academy trained player has a year left on his current deal after signing an extension last year.
