Girumugisha hat-trick extends Al Hilal Omdurman win streak

Burundi national team star Jean Claude Girumugisha amazed observers with a hat-trick as Sudanese champions Al Hilal Omdurman marched to a third consecutive win in the Rwanda Premier League on Thursday.

The CAF Champions League participants dominated in a 3-1 victory over Bugesera FC as they continued to move up the table. After beginning their guest appearance this season in the Rwandan top flight with a 0-0 draw against Police FC, they are having little trouble with Rwanda’s lesser clubs.

Less than two minutes into the match, Girumugisha received a pass on the left wing in the penalty area and opened up to curl his finish around the goalkeeper.

But the Burundian’s second strike after the hour mark was the highlight of the match. After collecting the ball in space on the flank, he ran at the defense and cut inside, finding space to produce an even more spectacular curling shot to extend his team’s advantage.

Shortly after the second goal, Bugesera answered back with a splendid shot from distance of their own but Girumugisha put the result beyond doubt ten minutes later by pouncing on a defensive mistake to move in on goal and finish.

Al Hilal, alongside local rivals Al Merreikh, are participating in the Rwandan top flight this season to provide the team with regular football as they pursue their objective of a strong showing in the CAF Champions League. They now have ten points from four matches after Thursday’s victory followed a 2-0 victory over Mukura Victory Sports on Monday.

Police FC are the current leaders, sitting four points ahead of defending champions APR FC with one more match played after the two teams played to a 0-0 draw last Friday.
