“Glody Lilepo has a lot to offer Kaizer Chiefs” - Nabi

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi says winger Glody Lilepo has much more to offer the club beyond what he has shown since joining the Soweto giants.

Lilepo has contributed significantly to Amakhosi’s season since he signed for the club from French third-tier side Valenciennes during the January transfer window. The 27-year-old has scored five goals in 18 matches in all competitions and is Chiefs’ joint top scorer with Wandile Duba.

His goal against Marumo Gallants was voted the Betway Premiership goal of the month for April. The Congolese was again on the score sheet when his side drew 1-1 with Sekhukhune United at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

Nabi attributes Lilepo’s untapped potential to a period of inactivity before his arrival. “We feel that he is a player who has not reached his potential because before coming [to the club] he spent some months without playing due to difficulties with his previous team,” said Nabi.

“Once he reaches his full physical potential [there will be an improvement] because you can see that sometimes he doesn’t finish games. He will also get used to his teammates. When he has had a good pre-season, he is a player that can do more than what he does now.

“He is a winger who can easily finish the league with ten goals. He is a winger who likes to cut inside and score goals. Lilepo is a type of player who is always looking for opportunities to score or help his teammates score. We believe that he can even do more than that.”

Saturday’s result means that Chiefs remain ninth in the league with only one game left to play. They will host Polokwane City FC at FNB Stadium next Saturday, who are also fighting for a top-eight finish and are two points above Amakhosi.
