Goalkeeper Simon Tamale is a free agent after running down his contract with Maroons FC, bringing an end to his latest stint with the Luzira-based club.

The shot-stopper rejoined the "Prison Warders" at the beginning of the recently concluded season after a successful year with Rwandan giants Rayon Sports. Tamale's return to the Uganda Premier League was met with high expectations and he didn’t disappoint.

He featured in 20 matches for Maroons FC this season, recording an impressive 10 clean sheets, a key factor in the club’s solid defensive record and their eighth-place finish with 44 points. His performances were a continuation of the form he displayed during his time in Rwanda.

While at Rayon Sports, Tamale made 19 appearances, boasting 15 clean sheets an exceptional statistic that earned him both national and club recognition. He was named Rwanda Premier League Player of the Month once, and Rayon Sports Player of the Month on two occasions.

Before his move to Rwanda, Tamale was a standout performer for Maroons FC in the 2022/23 season, where his dominant displays between the posts earned him the prestigious title of Uganda Premier League Best Goalkeeper.

Now unattached, Tamale's next destination remains the subject of speculation. However, reliable sources suggest that BUL FC, known as the Eastern Giants, are closely monitoring the situation and could make a move for the experienced goalkeeper.

With a track record of consistency, shot-stopping prowess and leadership at the back, Simon Tamale is likely to attract interest from multiple clubs both locally and regionally. Wherever he lands, his next club will be gaining one of East Africa’s most dependable glovesmen.
