Golden Arrows coach Manqoba Mngqithi has remained confident that his side will move up the Betway Premiership table to finish amongst top eight teams at the end of the current campaign.

Abafana Bes’thende are currently lying 12th on the 16-team league table having amassed 26 points from six wins, eight draws and eight defeats. With the expulsion of Royal AM from the league, it means Arrows are flirting with relegation and they have only managed one win from their last four league matches.

Since defeating Kaizer Chiefs 2-1 on March 29, they went ahead to draw 0-0 against Chippa United, draw 1-1 against Marumo Gallants before losing 1-0 against AmaZulu.

“The good thing is that these boys are willing to learn, and I’m very pleased with the whole lot of positives I see within the group,” Mngqithi said as quoted by Sowetan.

“The improvement, even physically I think, [shows] they have adapted because the type of game that we are playing is very demanding. And they have adapted fairly well in making sure we can sustain good football actions. When I started, we would have a perfect first half, and in the second stanza, we would be dead.

“Now we can sustain these football actions. But we just need to help ourselves because sometimes we work even harder when we don’t take our chances earlier. Once you take a lead, then you take control of the game, and it’s played in a tempo that suits you. The process is still okay. I’m not very worried at all; I still see the possibility of finishing in the top eight.”

Arrows will next face Stellenbosch at Mpumalanga Stadium on Saturday before they host Orlando Pirates on Tuesday.
