The Miners have employed the service of the former Kotoku Royals head coach to steer the affairs of the side for the next two seasons.
GoldStars won the Ghana Premier League last campaign under the guidance of Stephen Frimpong Manso, but his service was dispensed with at the beginning of the current term.
The 2025 GHALCA Top Four champions announced the appointment of coach Markus Schmid on their social media platforms.
“We’re pleased to share that Swiss international Fritz Markus Schmid has joined us as our new Head Coach, signing a two-year contract with the club.”
“Coach Fritz comes with deep experience at the highest levels of the game. He has previously worked as an assistant coach with Tottenham Hotspur, FC Basel, and the Austria National Team, and later served as head coach of the New Zealand men’s national team. More recently, he played a key role in guiding Kotoku Royals to promotion into the Ghana Premier League.”
“He now joins the Miners as we begin an exciting new chapter focused on ambition, steady growth, and long-term success. Welcome to the family, Coach Fritz. We’re glad to have you with us.”
GoldStars experienced a horrible CAF Champions League journey after suffering a 7-0 aggregate loss against Algeria side JS Kabylie in the qualifying stages.
They currently occupy 4th on the Ghana Premier League table with 25 points from 14 matches with one outstanding fixture against Medeama SC.
