Following the exit of coach Sinisa Mihic, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League champions Gor Mahia have confirmed that assistant coaches Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno and Michael Nam will take over in an acting capacity until the end of the season.

On Monday, the record Kenyan champions announced that they had parted ways with the Croatian, only three months after he took over the role. “We have parted ways with head coach Sinisa Mihic on mutual agreement; the two assistants will take charge on an interim basis,” confirmed a statement from the club.

‘Zico’ and Nam were in charge of the team before Mihic took charge. His performances may have contributed to his departure from the Kenyan giants. Gor Mahia, who are chasing their third consecutive league title, are third in the 18-team league table with 54 points, seven less than leaders Kenya Police, with two matches left to conclude the season.

A top Gor Mahia official, who did not want to be named, confirmed to Pan-Africa Football that ‘Zico’ and Nam will oversee the remaining two league matches and the semi-final clash of the FKF domestic Cup.

“We don’t want to hire a new coach now, we only have three matches to end the season, two in the league and we have another in the domestic cup. We have asked ‘Zico’ and Nam to temporarily take charge until the end of the season,” the official told Pan-Africa Football.

In the domestic cup, Gor Mahia will face Murang’a Seal in the semi-finals. In the league, they will face AFC Leopards in the Mashemeji derby, Ulinzi Stars and Police FC.
