Gor Mahia miss chance to cement lead after Kariobangi Sharks draw

Kenyan Premier League giants Gor Mahia missed out on a great opportunity to move nine points clear at the top of the FKF Premier League following a 0-0 draw against a stubborn Kariobangi Sharks side at Kasarani Stadium on Saturday.

The record league champions went into the fixture knowing a win will take them nine points clear ahead of second-placed and rivals AFC Leopards, who have amassed 52 points from 26 matches.

The draw now means AFC Leopards will be able to reduce Gor Mahia’s lead at the top to only two points, with only eight matches remaining to conclude the season, if they manage to beat Murang’a Seal in another league fixture on Sunday.

David Majak missed open chance for Sharks

Sharks had the better the chance to go ahead in the opening exchanges but former Tusker FC striker David Majak fluffed an open chance with the goal gapping after a fantastic cross from the left side.

Samuel Kapen was the latest causality of missed chances this time for Gor Mahia after he failed to tap home a cross from the impressive Shariff Musa.

Sharks under William Muluya never looked down as they kept attacking the former champions. Humphrey Aroko missed another chance for Sharks after he directed his effort into the hands of goalkeeper Gad Mathews.

Homeboyz jump to third after Mathare win

Following the draw, Gor Mahia remained top with 57 points garnered from 17 wins, six draws, and three defeats. In another fixture, Kakamaga Homeboyz moved above defending champions Kenya Police FC to third position after defeating Mathare United 3-0 at Bukhungu Stadium.

Oliver Majaka, Samuel Odaro, and Henry Omollo scored to ensure the Kakamega-based outfit dislodged Police FC with 45 points, while the champions dropped to fourth with 43 points.

Elsewhere, struggling Ulinzi Stars went down 1-0 against promoted outfit APS Bomet.

Meanwhile, AFC Leopards have confirmed their fixture against Murang’a Seal will now be held at the Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday, April 5.

“Due to unavoidable circumstances, our FKF-PL away match against Murang’a Seal will now be played at Nyayo Stadium and not the Ulinzi Sports Complex as communicated earlier. Sorry for any inconvenience caused,” read part of the AFC statement.
