Kenyan Premier League giants Gor Mahia opened a nine-point gap at the summit of the FKF Premier League following their late 2-1 win against Mathare United at Nyayo Stadium on Saturday.
K’Ogalo went into the game sitting six points ahead of their rivals AFC Leopards, who had lost their fixture 1-0 against KCB on Friday. It was the Ghanaian duo of Ebenezer Assifuah and Enock Morrison, who scored for K’Ogalo in the closely fought contest.
Gor Mahia started off the game under high intensity, trying to find the way for the opening goal. The first chance fell to Alpha Onyango but he hit it wide. After the missed opportunity, Onyango set up Jackson Dwang, who failed to hit the target.
Shariff Musa then threatened Mathare United keeper Kevin Ouru after initiating a ball from the middle of play. The first half ended 0-0 with Gor Mahia coach Charles Akonnor being forced into an early substation – Bryton Onyona and Ebenezer Assifuah coming in for Levin and Adukwaw.
Gor Mahia continued to remain the dominant side but they had nothing to show for it. However, Gor had to wait until the 67th minute to take the lead. Assifuah finished off a cross from Alpha Onyango to the delight of Gor Mahia fans.

Knowing that they were headed to drop vital points with a draw, Gor Mahia continued to push for the winner. The goal arrived in the 88th minute when Morrison drilled home the winner to stun the ‘Slum Boys’.
