Kenyan Premier League giants Gor Mahia moved out on a chance to move nine points clear at the summit of the FKF Premier League following their 1-1 draw against Posta Rangers at Nyayo Stadium on Thursday.
K’Ogalo went into the fixture aiming to complete a league double over the Mailmen, having secured a commanding 3-0 victory in the first-round meeting at the same venue in October last year.
Apart from achieving a double, with their closest challengers not in action, victory would have seen Gor Mahia stretch their lead at the top to nine points, adding to the 49 points already collected from 22 matches.
Since their last defeat in December, Gor Mahia have built a formidable run; and the draw against Posta Rangers extended the unbeaten streak to 13 matches in the league, including eight consecutive league victories.
However, it was Posta who came off bocks first as they stunned the record Kenyan champions with an early lead. Former Tusker FC midfielder Jackson Macharia needed only seven minutes to give the Mailmen a shock lead which stunned Gor Mahia faithful.

Mahia needed the brilliance of Ghanaian import Ebenezer Assifuah, who scored in the 87th minute to salvage a crucial point. While Mahia came into the fixture sitting top, Posta came sitting 13th on 24 points and had managed just two points from their last outings.
Posta should have taken the lead in the 12th minute when a poor pass from Sylvester Owino found Macharia, but the former Brewer wasted the opportunity.
Gor responded with Jackson Dwang rattling the woodwork after a good pass from Alpha Onyango. Historically, this fixture has favoured Gor Mahia. Across 26 meetings, K’Ogalo have recorded 16 wins, seven draws and only three defeats, scoring 44 goals while conceding 20.
The draw saw Gor Mahia reach 50 points, seven more than second-placed AFC Leopards, while Shabana remained third on 40 points. For Posta, the vital draw same them remain 13th with 25 points from 23 matches.
On Monday, Tusker secured their second victory under new coach Julien Mette after defeating Kariobangi Sharks 2-1, while Nairobi United and KCB settled for a 1-1 draw.
