Gor Mahia too good for Posta Rangers as Tusker pick first season win

Kenyan record champions Gor Mahia secured an emphatic 3-0 win against Posta Rangers in an FKF Premier League fixture at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday.

K’Ogalo, who are seeking to regain the title they lost last season to Kenya Police FC, scored courtesy of Ben Stanley Omondi, Austin Odhiambo, and Felix Oluoch to bag their third victory of the season.

However, despite dominating proceedings, Gor Mahia were not able to break down Posta, who went into the game sitting top of the 18-team league table, until the second half when they scored three goals.

Gor Mahia goals came in the second half

After Gor Mahia coach Charles Akonnor introduced Ben Stanley Omondi and Felix Mboya, Gor Mahia started to look sharp and it never took them time as Omondi powered home a header to make it 1-0.

Five minutes later, it was 2-0 for Gor Mahia when midfielder Austin Odhiambo took advantage of a defensive mistake to stab home. Eliud Lokuwam almost reduced the deficit for Posta after he wasted an open opportunity.

Gor Mahia sealed the win when a mistake by Posta goalkeeper Frederick Odhiambo allowed Oluoch to find the back of the net. The win pushed Gor Mahia to third on the pile with nine points.

Tusker get first win after five matches

In another match, Mathare United stunned Shabana 1-0 at Gusii Stadium, while Erick Kapaito’s 76th-minute strike was enough to earn Tusker their first win of the season, a narrow 1-0 victory over Murang’a Seal.

Ahead of the game, Tusker coach Charles Okere had discussed the team’s poor start to the season, insisting it was important they started to win matches.

“We have drawn our last two matches and it is now time we get a win. Where we are in the table is not a good place and we need to work to get our first win of the season, which I believe will push us into a good run,” said Okere.

The victory pushed Tusker to five points from five matches while Murang’a Seal, who almost got relegated last season, remained in the relegation zone with three points.
