Former Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League champions Gor Mahia have received 148 applicants seeking to take up the vacant coaching role at the club ahead of the 2025/26 new season.

The coaching role at the Kenyan record champions fell vacant following the sacking of interim coaches Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno and Michael Nam. The two were dismissed at the end of last season after the team went the entire campaign without silverware.

A statement from the club confirmed;

"By close of the application period last week, we received a total of 539 applications for the various advertised positions. Following an initial screening process, 311 applications were deemed valid. After a more detailed review, the number was further narrowed down to 247 applications distributed as follows:

Head Coach – 148

Assistant Coach – 21

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) – 13

Physiotherapist – 32

Team Manager – 7

Team Doctor – 6

Goalkeeper Coach – 7

Strength and Conditioning Coach – 13

Shortlisting and interview process is scheduled to take place within the course of the week."

Meanwhile, Gor Mahia official Sally Bolo has explained the decision to advertise for the coaching job: “Now, on a serious note, advertising vacancies, including the head coach role, is a professional and transparent process. It helps us attract a wide and diverse pool of qualified candidates.

“We don’t just go with who we know, we open up the opportunity to those who best align with the club’s vision and ambition. This is how we grow and move forward.”

Gor Mahia were beaten to the Premier League crown by Kenya Police FC and lost the domestic FKF Cup to Nairobi United, after losing 2-1 in the final.
