Kenyan Premier League giants Gor Mahia needed a late goal to reclaim top spot in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League following a 2-1 win against bogey side Bidco United on Saturday.
Gor Mahia went into the fixture having won their last two Premier League matches since the 0-0 draw against Shabana. K’Ogalo had defeated Murang’a Seal 3-2 before smashing Mara Sugar 3-0.
However, they were coming up against a side that had inflicted them defeat in the first round of the campaign. During the match played in September 2025, Bidco United won 1-0.
On Saturday, it was Bidco, who scored first against the run of play. Brian Mboya took advantage of a Gor Mahia defensive mistake to stab home the opener in the 26th minute.
Bidco held firm until the 62nd minute when Gor Mahia pulled a goal back to level the scores. Ghanaian import Ebenezer Assifuah scored from a superb volley before defender Paul Ochuoga grabbed the winner in the stoppages.
The win saw Gor Mahia move top of the 18-team Premier League table with 36 points, three more than their rivals AFC Leopards. However, AFC have a chance to move level if they manage to beat Sofapaka on Sunday.
In another match, Shabana threw away a two-goal lead to settle for a 3-3 draw against promoted side APS Bomet. The draw, the seventh of the campaign, saw Shabana miss a chance to topple AFC Leopards from second point.
“We were playing away and dropped points, but the positive thing is that we are still unbeaten away from home. I believe we will carry that momentum forward,” said Shabana head coach Peter Okidi after the draw.
Shabana remained third with 28 points from 18 matches. After the match, Shabana fans accosted the team’s bus demanding answers from the players following the poor run of results in recent weeks.
