Africans abroad: Gueye, Mouandilmadji open season account in Turkish Super Lig

Chadian international, Marius Mouandilmadji, opened his season’s goal account as Samsunspor defeated Genclerbirligi at home in the Turkish Super Lig on Saturday.

The 2025/26 Super Lig season opened on Friday with Galatasaray running riot with a 3-0 win over Gaziantep FK.

Mouandilmadji notched home Samsunspor’s opener from the penalty spot with just 38 minutes played on match day one, with the goal separating both sides at the half-time break.

The home side increased their tally when Emre Kilinc set up Denmark forward, Carlo Holse, to double their lead in the 68th minute.

Samsunspor held on to the two-goal lead into the 88th minute mark when Gaziantep pulled a consolation through the effort of Turkish attacker, Metehan Mimaroglu, but that was not enough to salvage a point for the visitors.

Samsunspor’s victory put them on three points, just as Galatasaray and Antalyaspor did after match day one of the Super Lig.

In the other Saturday fixture, Senegal attacker Habib Gueye registered a goal as Kasimpasa lost 2-1 at Antalyaspor. Gueye’s goal in the 31st minute was between Antalyaspor’s 19th-minute opener and the 40th-minute lead.
