The Guinea Football Federation (Feguifoot) has requested the full verdict of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Appeal Jury after the latter rejected the appeal filed against Tanzania for fielding an ineligible player.
The Appeal Jury rendered a decision to reject the complaint filed by Guinea.
The Syli National lost to the Taifa Stars 1-0 in the final group game of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, missing out on a place in the tournament, which is due to be held in Morocco.
Guinea claims that Tanzania fielded a player, Ibrahim Ame, wearing jersey number 24, who entered the pitch in the 76th minute, despite the number not being listed in the official CAF squad submission.
Nonetheless, the CAF Appeal Committee rejected the claim, and Tanzania’s place in the 2025 AFCON remains intact.
With the CAF Appeal Committee rejecting the case, Feguifoot has now sought the full decision as they prepare to take the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). In an official statement, the federation said they expect a fair judgment from CAS.
“The Guinean Football Federation reaffirms its belief in the merits of its claim and announces that it intends to bring the matter before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS)," reads the statement.
"This step is all the more necessary given that, throughout the disciplinary proceedings before the CAF, the Guinean Football Federation has been confronted with serious breaches of the most basic procedural rights.
"In particular, we were deprived of our right of full access to the file, prevented from requesting the production of essential evidence, and kept away from major procedural exchanges, in violation of the fundamental principles of adversarial proceedings and the right to be heard.
"The Federation believes that these irregularities deprived the Appeal Jury of the elements necessary for a fair assessment of the facts. We are confident that the Court of Arbitration for Sport will guarantee a fully fair procedure, in compliance with international standards of sports justice, and will be able to correct the effects of the procedural violations of which it was a victim.”
Guinea is fighting to replace Tanzania in the 2025 AFCON, which will commence in December in the North African nation of Morocco.
