Guinean delegation heads to Cairo for CAF appeal hearing

Tanzania and Guinea clash in qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations
Tanzania defeated Guinea to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations but Guinea is continuing their appeal over the eligibility of a player.

A delegation from the Guinean Football Federation (FGF) will travel to Cairo, Egypt, to attend an appeal hearing at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) headquarters, as part of a case involving the national teams of Guinea and Tanzania during the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.

In an official statement released following its ordinary meeting held on Friday, the FGF confirmed its receipt of a notification from CAF to hold an appear hearing concerning decision DC23198, initially ruled by the CAF Disciplinary Panel.

The appeal hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, June 11, at 10:00 AM (Cairo time) at CAF headquarters.

The case stems from the match between Tanzania and Guinea on November 19, 2024 in Dar es Salaam as part of the final round of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. After that match which ended in a win 1-0 for Tanzania, the Guinean side lodged a formal complaint against the Tanzania national team. The FGF alleged that substitute Ibrahim Ame—whose jersey number (#26) did not match the number assigned to him on the team sheet (#24)—should have been ineligible due to a "serious irregularity".

The Guinean delegation traveling to Cairo aims to defend the Federation's interests and assert what they see their rights in front of the Appeal Panel.

The outcome of the hearing could have significant implications for the final qualification standings and Guinea’s path to the continental tournament in Morocco.

Group H in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers concluded as follows:

Points

DR Congo

12

Tanzania

10

Guinea

9

Ethiopia

4

This means that if Guinea is awarded a victory in the disputed match against Tanzania, they would qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
