Guirassy brace moves Dortmund into Champions League top-5

Borussia Dortmund continued to thrive in the UEFA Champions League with Serhou Guirassy’s two goals powering the Bundesliga side to a 4-0 thrashing of Villarreal on Tuesday.

A strong second half saw the hosts run out to a dominant victory but it was the Guinean’s goal just before halftime that broke the spirit of the Villarreal resistance. A corner kick in first half stoppage time led to Guirassy’s first goal with a scrappy strike to put the hosts ahead.

The Bundesliga side then built off the momentum of the opener to double their advantage before ten minutes elapsed in the second half. A penalty kick opportunity saw Guirassy’s spot kick well saved by the foot of Villarreal goalkeeper Luiz Júnior. However, the ball went right back to the goal scoring specialist who was left with a simple task to complete his brace.

Karim Adeyemi added the third goal a few minutes later and the winners scored one more in stoppage time to move into 4th place on the League Phase table. It was the first victory in four matches for the team that currently sits 4th on the Bundesliga table as well.

The Guinea national team talisman now has 9 goals and 3 assists in 17 appearances across all competitions this season for his club, with 3 of his goals coming in continental competition. Next up is a big Bundesliga clash at Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday.
