Guinea international Serhou Guirassy has expressed his readiness to face defender Sergio Ramos when Borussia Dortmund meet Monterrey in the FIFA Club World Cup Round of 16 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, on Tuesday.
With a quarter-final spot on the line, Guirassy said he is relishing the opportunity to test himself against one of the game’s all-time greats.
“It’ll be my first time (playing against Ramos),” said Guirassy, speaking to FIFA.com. “I can’t wait. Age isn’t a problem because you also see Thiago Silva, who is 40 and is still playing very well. It’s going to be a great match. Sergio Ramos is a great defender. He’s still proving that.”
Guirassy and Dortmund will come up against a Ramos side, which qualified for the knockout phase with an unbeaten record in Group E. They conceded just one goal in three games, with Ramos scoring with a header in their 1-1 draw against Inter Milan.
Guirassy, who opened his Club World Cup account in Dortmund’s thrilling 4-3 group-stage victory over Mamelodi Sundowns, further revealed his target of scoring in every match that he plays in.
“My goal is to score in every match, regardless of the opponent. If it’s Barcelona, or even in the Bundesliga, I try to score in every match. Unfortunately, it’s not always possible. But when I step onto the pitch, it’s to score goals,” he explained.
“I always try to stay confident. We have some tough matches ahead of us. Next, we have a Round of 16 match against a good Monterrey team. We’ll have to be at our best to win. We have to play to our full potential.”
