Senegal striker Habib Diallo has remained positive that struggling FC Metz will not be relegated from French Ligue 1 at the end of the season.
Out of 23 matches so far this season, Metz are languishing at the bottom of Ligue 1 with 13 points. They have secured only three wins, four draws, and suffered a whooping 16 defeats.
Nantes, who are above Metz in position 17 have accumulated 17 points from four wins, five draws, and 14 defeats. Diallo, who played three matches for the Lions of Teranga during the 2025 AFCON in Morocco and scored one goal, is not giving up yet on their survival bid.
“There’s always hope. If we didn’t have it, we wouldn’t even come to training. We could have stayed home. We’re going to do everything we can to keep FC Metz in Ligue 1, and we still have matches left,” Diallo told WiwiSport.
“Do we sense the dressing room is affected morale? That’s normal. We’re footballers. Personally, I’ve only ever fought to avoid relegation in my entire career.
“We’re affected. We have a match against Brest and we’re going to do everything we can to get points, to stay in the race. We have to stay focused and try to fight until the end.”
Diallo concluded: “Does being captain change anything in my role? No. I’m handling it well. For me, it hasn’t changed anything. We’ve known from the beginning that Gauthier (Hein) was the captain, but the club decided to give me the armband.
I’m still myself. With or without the armband, I’m going to continue to do my job.”
“Metz will host Brest in their matchday 24 at Stade Saint-Symphorien on Sunday.
