Two European powerhouses clashed to begin the final day of the quarterfinal round from the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup and it was reigning European champions Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) who came out on top with a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Bayern Munich.

A well placed finish in the 79th minute from Désiré Doué proved to be the difference for PSG, who now await another highly anticipated clash in the semifinals against either Borussia Dortmund or Real Madrid.

The dynamic 20-year-old forward’s low shot left legendary Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer wrong-footed to give PSG a late lead before substitute Ousmane Dembélé put the match away late.

The quality of the PSG attack made them the more dangerous team over the course of the match but the Parisian giants were fortunate to escape with a victory. After Doué’s goal, red cards issued to Willian Pacho and Lucas Hernandez left PSG with only nine players to defend the lead in the final stages while Bayern striker Harry Kane’s apparent late equalizer was disallowed due to offsides.

Both goalkeepers came up with big saves. PSG shot stopper Gianluigi Donnarumma produced a massive save before halftime and Neuer equaled his rival’s challenge with a stunning save of his own from Bradley Barcola’s effort early in the second half.

The first half ended on a somber note after Bayern winger Jamal Musiala suffered a ghastly ankle injury, causing players from both teams to be visibly disturbed.

But in the end, it was Achraf Hakimi and his teammates who progressed after Dembélé’s perfect finish late on despite the numerical disadvantage. PSG will meet the winners of Saturday’s later quarterfinal between Real Madrid and Dortmund in a massive semifinal duel on July 9 in New Jersey (19:00 GMT).
