Riaan Hanamub’s beautiful long distance strike was the difference as AmaZulu emerged victorious with a 1-0 victory at Golden Arrows on Tuesday in the Betway Premiership.
The Namibia national team star scored a rare goal to secure victory at the King Zwelithini Stadium in the Durban Derby, moving Usuthu into third place on the table.
It was a disastrous result for hosts Arrows who appeared to be well in control for much of the match. However, a resolute defensive performance for AmaZulu suitably ended with one of their defensive stars making the key contribution on the other end.
Arrows appeared set to take a halftime lead after being awarded a penalty kick in first half stoppage time. After Luthando Ndlovu was tripped up, Junior Dion fired his spot kick off the crossbar and out of play to give AmaZulu a reprieve.
And while the hosts continued to struggle in the final third, Hanamub cut inside from the left wing in the 56th minute and uncorked a powerful blast past Xolani Ngcobo for the only goal of the match.
Midweek action from South Africa’s top flight continues tomorrow with six matches, among which Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs will be away from home for clashes against Siwelele FC and Chippa United respectively.
