Ghana Premier League: Hearts of Oak make light work of struggling Eleven Wonders

Hearts of Oak had a walk in the park when they pummeled strugglers Eleven Wonders 3-0 during the week 20 fixture of the Ghana Premier League on Saturday at the Legon Sports Stadium.

In a game that saw Ghana national team number one keeper Benjamin Asare virtually on holiday, Hearts of Oak controlled major part of the first half with tight midfield and wing play.

A quick break from the middle of the park saw Henry Kwaku Boateng tee off Mawuli Wayo, who calmly outwitted his marker to plant the opener with just eight minutes played.

The record Ghana FA Cup holders continued their dominance, missing a number of chances in front of Eleven Wonders area. Wayo came close to finding the second goal but headed wide Frank Duku’s assist with a minute to end the first half.

Hearts of Oak returned for the second half still looking promising but Eleven Wonders showed flashes of brilliance which was enough to trouble the visitors. Substitute Martin Karikari then took advantage of Eleven Wonders’ poor clearance to plant home the second goal for the record FA Cup holders with twelve minutes into the second half.

Hearts of Oak were then awarded a penalty when Hamza Issah was hacked down by Eleven Wonders’s Hamza Musah, with Kelvin Osei Asibey slotting home beautifully from the spot in the 74th minute for their third on the afternoon.

With the time added on exhausted, the 2000 CAF Champions League winners ran away with a 3-0 win and a push into second on 35 points, five points behind leaders Medeama SC pending other week 20 matches on Sunday.
