Henri Saivet: Clermont Foot midfielder returns from long injury

French Ligue 2 side Clermont Foot have been boosted by the return of veteran Senegalese midfielder Henri Saivet.

The 34-year-old who has been sidelined since December last year, is in Clermont Foot’s 18-man squad for their home game against Nancy on Friday at 6:00PM.

Henri Saivet has 31 caps for Senegal

A significant boost for Clermont in their fight to avoid relegation from Ligue 2.

The former Newcastle United midfielder has been out of action since mid-December with a calf injury but he is expected to play a part as they fight to move from their current position.

Clermont Foot currently share the 14th spot with Nancy on 29 points from 29 matches and are five points away from the relegation playoffs zone.

His compatriots Massamba Ndiaye and Famara Diedhiou are also in the squad.

Saivet made 15 appearances with a goal before sustaining the calf injury that sidelined him for four months.

He joined Clermont Foot from lower tier side, Pau FC for the current season as a free agent.

Saivet is well traveled across Europe having played for Bordeaux, Angers, Saint-Etienne, Newcastle United, Sivasspor and Bursaspor.

Having represented France at the youth level up to the U-21, side, the Dakar born has 31 caps for the Teranga Lions with a goal to his credit.
