The city of Marrakech hosted, Monday evening, the signing of a memorandum of understanding for the construction of the regional headquarters of the International Football Federation FIFA in Africa.
This headquarters will be located in Salé, near the Mohammed VI Football Center in Maâmora, an internationally renowned sports complex. This project represents a key step which confirms the central role of Morocco in the development of football at the continental and global levels.
The ceremony, organized in the Palais des Congrès in Marrakech, was attended by leading political and sporting figures.
Among them, the Head of the Moroccan government Aziz Akhannouch, Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) president Fouzi Lekjaa as well as FIFA president Gianni Infantino and Confederation of African Football (CAF) president Patrice Motsepe.
This landmark event was held just after the closing of the 2024 CAF Awards, a prestigious ceremony organized for the third consecutive year in Morocco that honors the best in African football.
The choice of Morocco to host this new headquarters near the Mohammed VI Center underlines the strategic importance of this infrastructure. Considered one of the best sports centers in the world, it will help strengthen relations between FIFA and African national federations while supporting the development of football on the continent and the promotion of young talents.
This project is part of a series of sporting successes for Morocco including the organization of major events such as the FIFA Club World Cup and ongoing preparation to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup in partnership with Spain and Portugal.
This strategic partnership illustrates the trust placed by international sports authorities in Morocco, which continues to assert itself as a benchmark sports destination and a key player in the development of football on a global scale.
