Kakamega Homeboyz cut Gor Mahia’s lead at the top of the FKF Premier League to two points following their commanding 2-0 victory against Posta Rangers at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega County on Sunday.
Homeboyz went into the fixture having gone three matches without registering victory. Their last win came on October 29 when they defeated promoted side APS Bomet 2-1.
However, Homeboyz drew their next fixture 1-1 against Tusker, registered another 1-1 draw against Murang’a Seal before losing 2-0 against Mathare United.
Spurred on by the home crowd, Homeboyz looked the better side from the onset, and should have taken the lead in the 10th minute when John Omondi fired wide from a very good position.
Posta created their first chance when Eliud Lokuwam and Caleb Olilo combined well but the latter’s effort was not able to trouble the Homeboyz goalkeeper. However, Homeboyz broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute when Rodgers Ouma found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead at the half-time break.
At the start of the second half, Homeboyz coach Patrick Odhiambo introduced Hillary Juma, and Joshua Nyatini. The duo combined minutes later to grab the second with Juma applying the finishing touch.
The win saw Homeboyz move to second on the 18-team league table with 18 points, one less than record champions Gor Mahia, who had defeated Tusker 1-0 on Saturday. Homeboyz have five wins, three draws and lost once.
In other matches played on Sunday, AFC Leopards failed to return to winning ways after a 1-1 draw against Kariobangi Sharks, while Shabana FC threw away a lead to draw 1-1 against Murang’a Seal at SportPesa Arena.
