As Zamalek SC prepares to face Black Bulls of Mozambique in their CAF Confederation Cup Group D opener, defender Hossam Abdelmaguid expressed the team’s determination and focus during the pre-match press conference. The 23-year-old conveyed confidence in the squad’s readiness while emphasizing the importance of starting the campaign with a strong performance.

The match is set to take place on Wednesday at 9:00 PM Cairo time at Cairo International Stadium. Zamalek is placed in Group D alongside Egyptian side Al Masry and Nigerian team Enyimba.

On team readiness and mentality

Abdelmaguid highlighted the team’s commitment to following head coach Jose Gomes’ instructions and delivering a top-notch performance: "We are ready for the match. We are working as hard as possible and hope to execute the coach and technical staff’s game plan perfectly. We aim to win because this must be a strong start for us."

Despite the competitive nature of the opponent, Abdelmaguid stressed that Zamalek’s primary focus is on their own performance: "We are not worried about the opposing team. Our concern is our own level during the match, not theirs. If we stick to the coach’s plan and play our game we can win."

On the responsibility of playing for Zamalek

As a key defender for the White Knights, Abdelmaguid spoke about the honor and responsibility of representing a club of Zamalek’s stature in major tournaments: "When you play for Zamalek, reaching tournaments like this becomes natural. This is not my first or last competition with the club. My mindset now is that as long as I play for Zamalek, it is my duty to win every tournament we compete in."

Reflecting on last season’s Confederation Cup triumph, he added: "We hope to defend this title and achieve it once again. That is the standard we must maintain."
