How MC Alger have fared since Rulani Mokwena’s exit

Mouloudia Club d’Alger (MC Alger) continue to dictate matters in the Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 1 even after the exit of coach Rulani Mokwena.

The highly fancied South African parted ways with the Algerian league leaders while they sat comfortably at the top, five points clear of second-placed JS Saoura FC.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns tactician is now in charge of Libyan giants Al Ittihad SC. The 39-year-old walked out on the Algerian side after their CAF Champions League group stage exit was followed by indifferent results in the domestic league.

Mokwena’s surprise departure from MC Alger

On March 14, Mokwena finally announced he had left his role soon after MCA’s 2-3 defeat at the hands of Sead Ramovic’s CR Belouizdad in the Coupe d’Algérie (Algerian Cup).

MC Alger appointed Tunisian Khaled Ben Yahia as the team’s new head coach, replacing Mokwena. Ben Yahia signed a contract that will keep him in charge of the team until June 2027.

How is MCA performing under Ben Yahia?

On Wednesday, MCA continued with their push for CAF Champions League football for next season after stunning hosts CR Belouizdad 1-0, with Zakaria Naiji scoring in the third minute.

It was the fourth consecutive victory for the league leaders, who started life under Ben Yahia with a home 2-1 win over Khenchela FC on March 17.

Mokwena has since outlined his mission at Al Ittihad SC, promising to sweat blood in his quest to take the Libyan Premier League club back to the top echelon of African football.

Mokwena left MC Alger at the summit of Algeria’s Ligue 1 Professionnelle and after also winning the Algerian Super Cup.
