South Africa senior national football team coach Hugo Broos has explained why his Bafana Bafana should brace for a tough match against hosts Mozambique in a friendly on Tuesday.

The Belgian said this as the South Africans prepared to welcome the Mambas at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, Limpopo.

Bafana Bafana go into the match against the neighbours after playing out to a goalless draw against Tanzania during this FIFA window at the same Polokwane venue last Friday.

However, Broos has cautioned his wards that Mozambique could present them a different challenge to Tanzania.

“It will not be an easy game as we are playing against a good opponent,” the coach told the South African Football Association media.

“I think, if I’m not mistaken, they are doing well in the qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup at the moment. They also had a very good AFCON last year in Ivory Coast, so Mozambique is certainly not a bad team. On the other side, it will be a good test for all those new and young players who are with us at the moment.”

The 73-year-old coach also hinted at rotating his relatively youthful squad, which does not include the Mamelodi Sundowns players currently in the United States for the FIFA Club World Cup.

“It will be a totally different team to the one that played (against Tanzania) last Friday. I want to give playing time to everybody who is here in camp with us and give them the opportunity to express themselves on the pitch,” he said.
