English Championship side Hull City are reportedly on the verge of signing Nigerian forward David Akintola on a free transfer following his departure from Turkish club Caykur Rizespor.

The 29 year old’s potential move to the MKM Stadium comes at a timely moment for the club, who have been exploring options to bolster their wide attacking positions, especially with key wingers like Liam Millar and Mohamed Belloumi currently sidelined due to ACL injuries.

Hull City’s current transfer restrictions, which reportedly limit them to free transfers and loans, makes the Nigerian an ideal candidate for the Championship side.

Akintola’s European journey began with Danish giants FC Midtjylland, where he made a single senior appearance before embarking on a series of loan spells at clubs including Jerv, Haugesund, Omonia, and Hatayspor.

In 2021, he joined Adana Demirspor permanently, netting 13 goals in 77 appearances over three seasons. The Nigerian later moved to Caykur Rizespor, where he contributed four goals and nine assists in 49 outings over 18 months.

Now a free agent, Akintola is reportedly weighing various offers, including one to remain in Turkey with Gençlerbirliği, and also an option for a new challenge in the English Championship
