Hunt makes bold declaration ahead of Kaizer Chiefs’ clash

Durban City FC’s seasoned coach Gavin Hunt has made a bold declaration ahead of Friday’s assignment against Kaizer Chiefs in the top-flight league of South Africa.

The Betway Premiership’s new boys are coming to terms with a reality check they received on Sunday when they fell short in a Carling Knockout meeting with Richards Bay.

The Natal Rich Boys came out tops in the Durban derby, shrugging off the stubborn opposition with a 3-1 victory in extra- time.

Despite being disappointed with the quarterfinal cup exit, Hunt has dusted himself off to focus on the clash against Chiefs. The Soweto giants are in a celebratory mood after reigniting hopes of their up-and-down performances with an impressive result over AS Simba.

Chiefs swept aside the Congolese opponents 3-1 on aggregate to qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup paying ranks.

Hunt insists Durban City are ready for Chiefs

The Soweto giants must now focus on the Betway Premiership assignments starting with the wards for Hunt.

The former SuperSport United handler told his team’s media that they need to overcome Chiefs and atone for the Carling cup exit. The coach suggested that it was not all doom and gloom from the match against Bay.

“We started well and had good moments in the first half,” he said. “The key for us now is to be more clinical in front of goal and to manage critical defensive moments with greater focus.”

Hunt has since rallied his troops to right the wrongs from last week’s game and deliver a complete performance against AmaKhosi.

“We can’t dwell on this. It is part of our growth. We are seeing improvements every week, and we will be ready for Chiefs,” the PSL veteran said.

“We know what we’re capable of. It’s all about fine-tuning the small details, being more compact, taking our chances, and winning the moments that decide matches.”
