South Africa’s Durban City FC coach Gavin Hunt has given insights on their forthcoming Telkom Knockout quarter-final match against Richards Bay FC.
The Premier Soccer League (PSL) newcomers take on the Natal Rich Boys on Saturday while smarting from a 1-0 loss to Durban rivals AmaZulu FC last Sunday.
The third defeat of the season denied Hunt’s men an opportunity to climb further up the ladder. They currently occupy fifth place with 15 points from 10 games, six points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
Reflecting on the defeat, the former SuperSport United trainer could not hide his disappointment, suggesting that luck deserted them.
“Naturally, there is disappointment,” Hunt told City’s website. “We believe we performed well enough to get something from the match, but this is the nature of football. We take the lessons with us and now our focus must shift completely.”
However, the coach knows that there is no time to moan and groan as the games in South Africa’s top-flight league are coming thick and fast.
Hunt has since urged his side to make the most of the opportunity of vying for silverware when they meet Bay at the uMhlathuze Sports Complex.
“The match against Richards Bay is a separate challenge and a fantastic opportunity for us,” Hunt noted.
“It’s a different competition and our energy is now entirely on preparing for that task. The spirit within this group is excellent, and we will be ready.”
City sailed past Polokwane City to progress to the Carling Knockout’s quarter finals of the knockout competition.
