Hussein Mohammed sheds light how new partnership will restore pride in FKF Premier League

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed has revealed the new partnership with title sponsors SportPesa will be a new dawn for struggling Kenyan football.

In a significant boost to top-flight, the federation and betting firm announced an increase in prize money for the top league which is scheduled to kick off on Friday.

The increase will observe the winner of the league pocket Ksh15 million, and upward from the Ksh5 million that winners of the league used to receive under the previous regime.

SportPesa injected Ksh20 million into the top tier with Ksh15 million going to the new champions, Ksh3 million being pocketed by the second-placed team, while the third placed team will carry home Ksh2 million.

A new dawn for Kenyan football

Speaking after the unveiling, Mohammed said: “This new chapter is anchored on accountability, professionalism, and the commitment to restore pride in our game.

“For the first time in years, our league champions will be rewarded with prize money befitting a premier competition — Ksh 15 million for the winners, Ksh 3 million for the runners-up, and Ksh 2 million for the second runners-up.

“This investment not only motivates our clubs and players but also sets the stage for a more competitive and vibrant league.

“We are grateful to SportPesa for believing in Kenyan football and walking this journey with us. I call on more corporate partners to join hands with us as we build our league into one of the most vibrant and widely followed competitions in Africa.”

Tusker FC, who finished fourth in the last campaign, will open the season against KCB at Nyayo Stadium on Friday.
