Ghanaian winger Iñaki Williams has etched his name into the history books by winning the SPORTY LaLiga MVP award for the second consecutive season — becoming the first player ever to achieve this feat.
The award, which honors the best African player in Spain’s top division, recognized Williams for his contributions to Athletic Bilbao’s successful campaign. He recorded 14 goal involvements in the 2024/25 season, scoring 6 goals and providing 8 assists in 35 league appearances.
Williams topped the voting with 32% of the total votes, comfortably ahead of Villarreal’s Senegalese midfielder Pape Gueye (12%) and Osasuna’s Cameroonian defender Enzo Boyomo (10%).
Athletic Bilbao secured a fourth-place finish in LaLiga — their highest position since 2013/2014 season — and earned a return to the UEFA Champions League for the first time in 11 years.
The back-to-back MVP crowns reflect Williams’ consistency and growing influence in LaLiga, as well as his standing among Africa’s finest footballers in Spain history.
