Young Africans (Yanga SC) has dismissed claims that he disrespects Mainland Tanzanian Premier League after their 5-0 win against minnows Copco FC in the round of 64 fixture of the domestic Cup at KMC Stadium on Saturday.
After Yanga failed to qualify for the quarter-finals of the lucrative Caf Champions League, Ramovic was quoted by a section of selected media saying their failure was due to the low standards of the Tanzanian league.
However, after the win against Copco, Ramovic cleared the air by saying he was misquoted over the matter and went further to say that he only talks about Yanga and not other teams.
“When I talked about intensity, many of the journalists didn’t understand it, they think about something else, that I disrespect the league, I don’t disrespect the league because we have a lot of great players, and great coaches,” Ramovic told Pan-Africa Football.
“I talk about our Yanga team and not about other teams, what I said, we need to increase our (Yanga) intensity, and this is where we will increase because we want Yanga to always to go to the semi-finals of Caf Champions League and try to win trophies.”
On the win against Copco, Ramovic said: “We knew it was not going to be an easy game, but I told my players to keep the focus, we had to increase our intensity, we had to produce maximum high intensity runs, we needed our sprints to carry the day. We must maximize on our intensity and must look at ourselves and not the other teams.’
Copco coach Lucas Mligwa conceded defeat by saying: “Our plan was to deny Yanga space to dominate, space to play, but it didn’t work, they have more experienced players and dominated us in all fronts, congratulations to Yanga for the win.
“We tried to be compact defensively in the first half and managed to contain them, no goal was scored until we conceded a set piece which they scored from a corner but it was good show from my boys but football is about 90 minutes, we should have kept the momentum going and see what happens.”
