Ghana defender, Razak Simpson has admitted that he needs to work hard to keep his position in the senior national team.
The Nations FC centre-back made his Black Stars debut in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola at the November 11 Stadium in Luanda in a game that ended 1-1. He scored his first ever Ghana goal at the 2025 Unity Cup where the four time African champions pummeled Trinidad and Tobago by 4-0 to claim third place at the GTech Stadium in London in March.
With 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers resuming in September, Simpson believes that he needs to work harder to remain in coach Otto Addo’s squad.
“[My first call-up] It has really been amazing because I dream of playing for the Black Stars. Way back I was watching the likes of Asamoah Gyan, Stephen Appiah it has really impacted a lot in me like me watching them and I wished one day I will play in the Black Stars and God has made it possible,” Razak Simspon said.
“I would say I have to work more because a lot of the guys out there who are not yet in the Black Stars are really working harder because we have a lot of good players, quality players in Ghana and so me being given this opportunity I have to work harder.”
Touching on the 2026 FIFA World Cup slot, the former WAFA defender remained confident that, Ghana has the chance to qualify for global football showpiece.
“We are going to qualify, there is no two way about that so we need the supporters from to cheer us on because the matches that are left is not easy but we are going to qualify for sure, one hundred percent.”
Simpson played 20 games for Nations FC, scoring four goals as they controversially finished 5th in the standing of the 2024/25 season.
