Kenya national team player Mohammed Bajabar has revealed how he struggled to get sleep when his brother informed him of Tanzania Premier League giants Simba SC’s intentions to sign him ahead of the new season.
The 22-year-old was forced to abandon national team Harambee Stars camp, as they were preparing for the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) kick off, to travel to Tanzania where he was unveiled by the Msimbazi Reds.
“I didn’t know that I would end up playing for Simba, my brother came and told me that Simba have enquired if I was willing to play for them. My response was straight forward, yes, that is a good move and please follow it up,” explained Bajaber.
“I didn’t sleep even a single day when the news came in, I was alone in my room and kept thinking I am now a Simba, player, I never got sleep,” added Bajaber while nodding his head. “Honestly, I was not able to sleep.”
Asked why he couldn’t sleep, Bajaber responded: “Simba is a big team.”
In a separate interview with Azam TV, Bajaber explained his eagerness to play in the Kariakoo derby against rivals Young Africans.
“Simba and Yanga is a big game. Every season, it’s a big game and everyone looks forward to it. As a player, you dream of playing in such games and scoring. It’s pretty much the same as the Mashemeji Derby,” he said.
“Even though I haven’t played in the derby, the magnitude of the game is the same because many people turn out for it. It’s good because, as a player, it elevates you.”
Bajaber moved to Simba on a two-year contract from Kenya Police FC.
