Abdoulaye Doucoure has indicated that he deserves a contract extension at English Premier League club Everton.

The 32-year-old Mali midfielder has been instrumental for the Toffees since joining them from Watford in 2020. His record includes 164 matches for David Moyes' side, but despite his blistering form, he is yet to be handed a fresh deal.

Everton must trigger the one-year extension on his current contract, and Doucoure remains hopeful of staying a season longer when the club moves to their new 52,000 seater stadium, the Bramley-Moore Dock, after 132 years at Goodison Park.

“It’s still up in the air. The club are going to offer me a new contract soon, and obviously, I am happy about that. I think I deserve a new contract,” he told Toffee TV.

“I will always be grateful for Everton, but I wanted to know what was going on, if I was going to stay, if I was going to leave, are they going to offer me something? At some point, you want to know as a player.

“I think, given what I’ve done for the club, I deserve to know. I had a nice conversation last week with the club, and hopefully, they are going to offer me a new contract.

“At the moment, I am still an Everton player, but it’s going to be a long summer, so let’s see what happens.”

Everton’s final game at Goodison Park will be against Southampton on Sunday, May 18, before rounding up the season at Newcastle United on May 25.
