Ibrahim Sadiq scores late winner to qualify AZ Alkmaar for UEFA Conference League

While most clubs in the Dutch Eredivisie were finished with their 2024-25 season last weekend, the relegation and UEFA Conference League playoffs continued on and AZ Alkmaar will have European football next season thanks to Ibrahim Sadiq.

The Ghanaian came on as a halftime substitute and ended up scoring a dramatic late winner in second half stoppage time to give AZ a 3-2 victory over Twente. Sadiq was in the right place to pounce and score from a rebound after Twente goalkeeper Przemysław Tytoń spilled a shot.

Sadiq, a product of the Right to Dream Academy, has featured mainly as a substitute this season but it has been a role he is thriving in for AZ. He scored seven goals and provided four assists in 27 appearances across all competitions.

In an up-and-down season for AZ, Sadiq is a player who may have a bigger role next season if he can avoid injuries and other factors which limited his impact at times this season.
