Senegal international, Idrissa Gana Gueye found himself on the score sheet early in their Premier League Summer Series friendly on Wednesday but that was not enough to secure them a win against West Ham United.
The 35-year-old raced from behind and positioned himself in West Ham’s penalty area to smash home Everton’s opener with just 17 minutes played at the Soldier Field in California, USA.
The Hammers were however not hypnotized by the early setback, coming back stronger with a great display of ball possession and passing in the middle of the park.
Brazil attacking midfielder, Lucas Pacqueta capitalised on Everton goalkeeper, Mark Travers’ costly mistake to poke the Hammers’ equalizer with three minutes to end the first half.
Both clubs tested each other in both halves with the score line remaining at 1-1 until the 64th minute when Germany forward, Niclas Fullkrug latched on to a loose ball in the middle of the park, made a solo run before striking past Toffees goalkeeper, Mark Travers to peg the game at 2-1.
Everton failed to pull level with West Ham running away with a perfect pre-season victory. West Ham have two games to complete the Summer Series friendlies before their English Premier League kicks off on August 16. They will next play Bournemouth and Ligue 1 club LOSC Lille before returning to England.
