“If I get the chance, I’ll score for my country” – Ahimbisibwe fired up for CHAN 2024

KCCA FC’s new striker Ivan Ahimbisibwe is brimming with confidence and determination ahead of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), vowing to make a significant impact for Uganda when the tournament kicks off on August 2 in Dar-es-Salaam, co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania.

Fresh off a stellar season with URA FC, where he netted 16 league goals—just three shy of top scorer Allan Okello—Ahimbisibwe believes he is ready to deliver for the Uganda Cranes on home soil. He was one of the standout performers in the 2024/25 Uganda Premier League campaign, tallying 21 goals in 54 appearances since his move from UPDF FC in 2023.

“It’s a privilege that I have made it to the squad,” Ahimbisibwe told the media after a high-intensity training session in Luzira. “The training is always intense, but we are pushing hard to ensure we compete well in the tournament at home.”

Uganda has been drawn into a challenging Group C alongside Algeria, Guinea, Niger, and South Africa. All of the Cranes’ group games will be hosted at the iconic Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

The campaign begins against Algeria on August 4, followed by Guinea on August 8, Niger on August 11, and South Africa on August 18.

Ahimbisibwe, now donning KCCA FC colors, is aiming to carry his club form into the CHAN tournament. “As strikers, our job is to score goals. If I get the chance to score for my country, that’s my mission,” he said with focus and pride.

He also took time to rally the nation behind the team: “To all Ugandans around the world, we call upon you to come and support us. You’re the 12th man. We’re preparing so hard to make the country proud.”

With belief, form, and firepower, Ahimbisibwe looks ready to spearhead Uganda’s CHAN challenge.
