Iliman Ndiaye’s amazing first half strike was enough to give Everton a point away at Sunderland in the only match on Monday from the English Premier League.
The Senegalese international collected the ball on the right wing and wove his way past multiple Sunderland defenders before curling in a perfect finish to stun the home support at the Stadium of Light.
However, that was as good as it got for the visitors who elected to try and defend their lead after holding on to a 1-0 advantage by halftime. Sunderland midfielder Granit Xhaka equalized in the opening minute of the second half before the match settled down for a rather uneventful draw.
In the end, it was a satisfying result for Everton who moved up to 14th place on the Premier League table at the expense of Sunderland, the surprise team of the season so far in 4th place after earning promotion ahead of the current campaign.
Ndiaye is enjoying another solid season so far for the Merseyside club, with Monday’s goal his 4th of the season. The 25-year-old former Sheffield United star is also enjoying good form with the Senegal national team, helping the Lions of Teranga to secure 2026 World Cup qualification by providing a goal in their 4-0 victory over Mauritania as well as an assist in their 5-0 thrashing of South Sudan in October.
He is set to be in action on Saturday when The Toffees host Fulham before the next international break.
