Everton ended a historic chapter on Sunday at long time home ground Goodison Park with two Iliman Ndiaye goals giving the Toffees a 2-0 victory over Southampton in their final match at the venue.
The Senegal national team attacker opened the scoring with an opportunistic and decisive finish in the 6th minute. Last placed Southampton provided decent resistance but their attack failed to find a way past Everton and England national team goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.
Just before halftime, Ndiaye added another goal to put the Toffees beyond reach of their hapless opponents. Dwight McNeil drove through the heart of the Southampton midfield and his pass was perfect to find the run of Ndiaye, who pounced to finish past onrushing Saints goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.
After a poor first half of the campaign, Everton recovered well under head coach David Moyes and have secured a 13th place finish. The club will move into newly constructed Everton Stadium next season while the Everton women's team will continue at Goodison Park.
Ndiaye ends his campaign with nine league goals and eleven in all competitions. The former Sheffield United star joined Everton ahead of the current season for €18 million from Olympique de Marseille.
