CR Belouizdad striker Islam Slimani is nearing the exit door after failing to show up for team training. The all-time Algerian national side top goal scorer failed to report to camp when the Algerian side traveled to Tunisia for preseason preparation.
Slimani, 37, is in disagreement with the Algerian capital club over payment of his salary. His decision to skip training backfired as Belouizdad now looks to rescind his remaining one-year contract. According to La Gazette du Fennec, the club has unleashed legal action on the veteran Algerian forward.
Islam Slimani joined Belouizdad after a remarkable stint in Europe. His six-month stay at the club could be regarded as a failure after only bagging three goals in all competitions. Slimani spent the latter half of the season on loan in Belgium with KVC Westerlo. He managed to score two league goals in 18 appearances for the Belgian side.
With the 2025/26 Algerian Ligue 1 season kicking off, Belouizdad hopes to terminate Islam Slimani’s contract due to absenteeism. Slimani is among the national team heroes who opted to sign for an Algerian side before the start of the 2024/25 league season. His former national teammate Andy Delort is on the verge of leaving MC Alger.
